Local Football Roundup - 8th January 2017

It was a disappointing weekend in the FA Cup for our two local sides involved.

footballStoke hosted Championship side Wolves and despite Mark Hughes naming a strong starting eleven, The Potters slipped to a two nil defeat.

They fell behind in the twenty ninth minute and Wolves made sure of a fourth round tie in the eightieth minute with their second.

Port Vale were also knocked out after suffering a four nil away defeat at Championship Huddersfield Town.

Three late goals for Huddersfield highlighted the big gulf between leagues and Vale caretaker manager admitted it was men against boys in the second half.

In the league, Crewe Alexandra were in action away at Mansfield Town in League Two,

They were another local side to have a disappointing weekend, losing three nil.

Crewe have now won just twice in their last twenty one games and have slipped to eighteenth in the league.

Leek Town had a one nil victory against Sheffield in the Evo Stik Divison One South.

The only goal of the game came in the seventy first minute from Tim Grice.
