Name: Doug Wood
Birthplace: Faversham, Kent
Describe yourself in 3 words: A Radio Anorak.
Give us an interesting fact about yourself: I always see people as I find them. No matter what colour they are, or where they are from, all that matters to me is that they are nice people. I tend to give what I get, so if someone is kind to me, I will be kind back. It works the same the other way, if they trick me, or are not nice to me.
What is your favourite song of all time and why? Caroline by The Fortunes. It’s the theme tune to the most famous Offshore Radio Station in the world. I first heard Radio Caroline just a few days after it first started in 1964. We had NO all day pop radio at all in Britain then, you could only do it from a ship outside British territory. I was hooked from the start.
Describe your ideal night out/in: OUT: A pint with a mate. IN: With my wife Lynn and a good movie on TV.
What do you love about Newcastle-under-Lyme? The people are very friendly. It also has lots of lovely countryside around it.
What is your favourite place in Newcastle-under-Lyme? Alsagers Bank. The view is amazing, and the HitMix studio just happens to be there as well.
What is your favourite part of being involved with The Hitmix? The FREEDOM to play what listeners want to hear, and I can pop some great forgotten favourites in as well.
