Newcastle under Lyme Borough Council – Go Digital winner saves half their council tax

A Chesterton resident who signed up to access a council’s services online has won 50 per cent off their council tax for the coming year.
Paul Smith was the randomly drawn winner after creating an online account for Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council before the 11th February deadline for the ‘Go Digital’ draw.
And runner-up Michael Hall, of Baldwins Gate, won a year’s free membership at the J2 leisure centre.
A delighted Mr Smith said: “I’m over the moon about winning: I’ll probably use some of the savings to treat the kids.”
He added: “I’ve already begun using the council’s services online and it’s really straightforward and easy to use.”
The Council is encouraging residents to ‘Go Digital’ and use its online services wherever possible.
Stephen Sweeney, Deputy Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Cabinet member for Finance, Town Centres and Growth, said: “Thousands of residents are already using our services digitally and we want to encourage more people to follow that route.
“By going online people will receive their bills faster than by post and have better accessibility to all our services, while using less paper helps reduce the council’s carbon footprint and saves taxpayers’ money.”
