20 January 2020 Local Sport
It was a great weekend for our local sides, Port Vale took a 1-0 victory over Leyton Orient with a goal from David Amoo on 71 minutes giving the Valiants all three points. Vale remain in tenth place in the table but are now only 3-points adrift on the play-off places.
Crewe Alexandra moved back into the automatic promotion places with a 1-0 over Cheltenham Town who dropped from third at the start of the game to seventh. Perry Ng got the goal that separated the two side on 69 minutes.
Newcastle Town rocked third placed Cleethorpes with a 3-2 victory over the high flyers. Cleethorpes took a 2-0 lead with goals from Scott Vernon on 19 minutes and Oli Donald on 33 minutes and looked to be heading for all three points. But Town came out in the second half and got a goal back on 49 minutes from Sam Bradbury with Ryan McLean equalising for the visitors on 63 minutes before Harry Howell struck in the 79th minute to put Newcastle in front and head home with the 3-points.
Kidsgrove Athletic left it late to secure a point in their match against fourth placed Belper Town. Athletic took the lead on 5 minutes as Rhys Thompson put the home side in front, but Belper equalised on 17 minutes with Danny Gordon netting. Alex Petersen put Town in front in the 71st minutes before Anthony Malbon netted for Grove on the stroke of full-time to rescue a draw for Kidsgrove.
