Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been named Council of the Year for its strategic approach towards housing.
The authority was declared the winner at the UK Housing Awards 2019.
These prestigious awards, run by the ‘Chartered Institute of Housing’ and ‘Inside Housing’, showcase the very best the housing sector has to offer.
Stoke-on-Trent was up against six other authorities, but was selected because of its innovative and strategic approach to regenerate the city by showing leadership through a wide range of approaches. This included building homes either directly, in partnership with private developers or acting as an enabler to deliver homes for people at all stages of their lives – including regenerating areas of the city.
A Stoke-on-Trent City Council spokesman said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have won this fantastic award. It demonstrates the huge amount of work that is being done in housing to make Stoke-on-Trent a place that people want to call their home.
