Foster Care Fortnight

10 May 2019 Local News News

This afternoon (Friday)  at 3.45 at Westport Lake, foster carers and the children of families who foster will put their walking boots on to stride out in support of ‘foster care fortnight’. They are joining a challenge in the city that will see fostering families walk 860 miles in two weeks – one mile for every child in care in the city. The activity is to raise the profile of the need for foster families to come forward, and the vital role they play in the lives of children.

‘Foster care fortnight’ runs from 13-26 May, and there are a range of events taking place across the city, starting with an information event at The Bridge Centre, Birches Head Lane on Monday 13th May at 6.30 pm, where you will be able to speak to the recruitment team and experienced foster carers.

Being a foster carer is truly life changing. If you have a spare room and spare time, even as little as one weekend a month, you can make a real difference to a child’s life.
