Car Owners Urged To Secure Their Valuables

23 April 2019 Local News

Staffordshire Police is appealing to car owners to secure their vehicles and not to leave items on display following a spate of thefts of items from parked cars in the north of Stoke-on-Trent.

Over the past few weeks officers have dealt with  reports of thefts from motor vehicles in Sneyd Green, Stanfield, Chell and Hanley. Items taken have included designer sunglasses, brand new shoes and tools.

Stoke North Neighbourhood Policing Team Sgt Victoria Barker said: “We’re asking vehicle owners to be conscious of security. Please make sure you lock your vehicle when you leave it, even if it’s only for a few seconds while you go to pay for fuel at a filling station. Don’t leave things on view. Wherever possible take things with you. If you have to leave items in your car then make sure they’re locked away out of sight in the boot. And if possible, park somewhere well lit. These simple measures may help reduce your risk of being targeted by thieves.”
