Acclaimed Athlete Inspires Youngsters

Youngsters at a Stoke-on-Trent school will be treated to the high-life this week with a visit from an acclaimed British athlete.

On Wednesday (19th September), high-jump champion David Smith will be visiting the Maple Court Academy in Bentilee.

The inspirational role model will encourage the youngsters to take part in a sponsored circuit training exercise before they relax through his assembly.

As well as sharing stories about his life as an athlete David will talk about the doors that athletics has opened for him and the struggles he has had to overcome to become successful today.

Principal of Maple Court Academy, Jonathan Baddeley, said: ‘It’s not every day that youngsters get the chance to train with a British athlete.

‘Having someone like David in school, inspires them to take part in sport and get active, illustrating that with positive thinking and hard work, they too can achieve their dreams and ambitions’.

As well as educating the students about the benefits of taking part in sport and leading a healthier lifestyle, the event also teaches them about the dedication and commitment that is needed to be the best in their chosen field.

As well as an assembly and Q and A session, students will take part in the sponsored circuit training, providing vital funds for the school and for athletes to represent their countries at prestigious events.
