Stoke City have this evening confirmed the appointment of Gary Rowett as the club’s new manager.

Rowett, 44, has signed a three-year contract with the Potters after the club agreed to pay compensation to Derby County.

Peter and John Coates told the media: “We are delighted to be able to move so quickly to secure Gary’s services and we are now looking forward to working with him towards our objective of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.”

Gary Rowett has managed a number of clubs from Burton Albion, Birmingham and most recently Derby County.

Rowett was most recently appointed the manager of Derby in March of last year and guided Derby to sixth position, losing to Fulham in the Play-Off semi-finals.

As a player, Rowett made more than 400 league and cup appearances for Cambridge, Everton, Blackpool (on loan), Derby, Birmingham, Leicester, Charlton and Burton.

Rowett will now have the summer to build up a Potters side that will challenge for promotion back to the top flight.
