Award winning student travel!

22 November 2017 Local

Children at a Stoke on Trent Primary School have been awarded for their work on sustainable travel.

The youngsters at Sneyd Green Primary school won the award for their ongoing commitment.

Pupils organised a Happy Feet Day and a reflector sale in order to raise money to make their own road safety video with the riot act.  Filming will commence next year.

This is the fourth academic year that the school have been working towards Modeshift STARS accreditation – The National School Travel Awards.

Last year the school received a gold award –  one of only 4 schools within Stoke on Trent and 10 within the whole of the Midlands region.

This year they were nominated for, and won, the Stoke on Trent STARS Primary School of the Year and previously in 2015 they won the STARS Award for Pupil Involvement.

Inclusion lead and School Travel Champion, Kyla Tideswell, said: “How our children travel to school or college can have an impact on the environment in which we live, the health of our children and the time it takes us to travel from one place to another. Along with other initiatives in school we encourage our students to make healthy travel choices.

I am really proud that we have received recognition for the work staff and students do to encourage others to be more healthy whilst having a safe journey to school.”
