12 September 2017 Local Local Sport

Stoke on Trent College are proud to be announced as one of the new netball network hubs across the country.

New for 2017/18, the Wasps Netball Academy are launching 8 hubs, targeting the most talented 13-18 year olds across the area.

Institute of Sports Performance Manager Trevor Humphreys said: “Sporting Excellence continues to develop at Stoke on Trent College.  The new Hub continues our ongoing partnership with the Wasps Netball Academy and enables our students and others across the area, to continue their participation in elite sports.”

As well as weekly training sessions, the 8 performance Hubs will play each other in the Wasps Netball Academy League with the Grand Final taking place at the Ricoh Arena ahead of one of the VNSL fixtures.

Director of Wasps Netball, Tamsin Greenway, said, “We’re very much looking forward to working with Stoke on Trent College this season.  Stoke was a perfect location for one of our Wasps Academy Hubs due to the amount of netball played and the talent of athletes in the area.  Having met with the College, seen the facilities, the staff and the vision they have as well as the quality of sport they already produce, it was a perfect opportunity for us to build on the relationship and develop with them.  The netball programme will not only help develop existing pupils and coaches, but will hopefully attract new students to the College as they continue their education and begin their Wasps journey.”

Open Trials are for players born after 1st January 1999 up to December 31st 2004.  £5 Trial fee to be paid on the night.

Successful candidates will be asked to contribute £175 which will give them access to weekly training sessions, a training T-shirt, 1 complimentary Season Ticket to watch VNSL home games at the Ricoh Arena.  Playing kit at an additional cost.

Trials for the Stoke on Trent Hub will take place at Stoke on Trent College’s Burslem Campus, Moorland Road, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, ST6 1JJ on Friday 29th September between 5.30 and 9.00pm.

Other Hub venues include Bedford, Oxford, Coventry, Rugby, Birmingham, Walsall and Stourbridge.

This latest announcement continues to prove that if you want to continue to compete within an elite environment, need high-level advice and support or just want to play sport and get fit and active, Stoke-on-Trent College’s new Institute of Sports Performance is the place for you.
