1 September 2017 Local News

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following yesterday’s (Thurs) fatal road traffic collision.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A50 at Uttoxeter (towards Blythe Bridge), near to the JCB World Parts Centre building, at around 10am.

The collision involved a white Iveco Daily van and a white Mercedes Sprinter box van.

Sadly the driver of the Mercedes, a 62-year-old man from Northamptonshire, was pronounced dead at the scene. Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time. Formal identification has yet to take place.

The driver of the Iveco, a 48-year-old man from Dunstall, Bedfordshire, was arrested at the scene in connection with providing a positive road side drug swipe and on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released under investigation.

The road remained closed for seven hours whilst officers from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit carried out a detailed examination of the scene and the vehicles were recovered.

If you have any information relating to the collision please contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident 170 of August 31.
